About this course
Landing a remote job is one skill. Being able to actually do it from a Nigerian house, month after month, is a completely different one — and it is where most people quietly lose the role. This course builds the second skill: reading a speed test properly, estimating your real monthly data in GB from your own working hours, sizing an inverter and battery in watt-hours for a laptop plus router plus light, running two independent connections so one outage never costs you a call, sounding and looking professional on camera from a noisy compound, computing your true overlap hours with the UK, Europe and the United States, and writing updates that never need a follow-up question. It is honest about the limits: some homes cannot carry full-time remote work today, and you will learn how to tell, and what to do instead. Your capstone is a written Remote Work Readiness Plan for your own life, with your own speed test, your own data estimate, your own watt-hour maths and your own communication standard. This course does not teach you how to get hired — for that, take How to Get Your First Remote Job and Freelancing from Nigeria.
You passed three interviews with a company in Manchester, signed the contract, and the laptop allowance landed. Six weeks later you are quietly let go, and the reason on the call is vague — "not the right fit for how we work". Nobody mentioned your skills, because your skills were never the problem.
What you'll learn
- Read a speed test properly — download, upload, latency, jitter and packet loss — and say whether it can carry a video call
- Estimate a realistic monthly data budget in GB from your own working hours, activity by activity
- Size an inverter and battery in watt-hours for a laptop, router and light across a full working day
- Build a redundancy plan with two connections on different carriers and switch over in under a minute
- Set up audio, lighting and a quiet call space that reads as competent from a Nigerian compound
- Compute your real overlap hours with the UK, Europe, US Eastern and US Pacific, including daylight saving shifts
- Write status updates and handover notes that do not generate a follow-up question
- Flag a slipping deadline early with a plan, so a problem never arrives as a surprise
- Protect client data and confidentiality on a device that other people in the house can reach

Your project
Your Remote Work Readiness Plan
