What you will submit

A single shareable link to a document containing your property brief, device list with naira costs, network/hub design, install + handover checklist, and pricing summary.

What to do, step by step

  1. Choose a real or sample Nigerian property to plan for (e.g. a 3-bedroom flat in Lekki, a short-let apartment in Abuja, or a small shop in Aba) and write a short brief: the type of property, the client's main goals (security, convenience, energy savings, monitoring), and their power and internet situation (inverter? fibre or 4G router?).
  2. Design the device list: choose specific devices for each need (bulbs, plugs, locks, cameras, sensors, voice assistant), state the ecosystem you'll standardise on (e.g. Tuya/Smart Life), and give a realistic naira cost for each device with a parts subtotal.
  3. Design the network and hub setup: describe the Wi-Fi plan (band, coverage, any mesh/extender or UPS you'll add), state whether a hub is needed and why, and explain how you'll handle power and internet outages (SD recording, lock override, router on UPS).
  4. Write an install + handover checklist: the order you'll install in, the safety steps (especially for any mains work), how you'll name and group devices into rooms, at least two useful automations/scenes for this client, and the security steps you'll take (change defaults, 2FA, firmware, secure Wi-Fi).
  5. Write a pricing summary: device subtotal, your installation labour fee, any optional maintenance/support plan, the deposit policy and payment method, and your work warranty — with a clear grand total in naira.
  6. Put the brief, device list with costs, network/hub design, install + handover checklist, and pricing into one shareable document (Google Doc, Notion or PDF) and submit the public, viewable link.

How it is graded

CriterionWeight
Device selection: sensible, specific devices matched to the client's needs, a single ecosystem, and realistic naira costs with a parts subtotal25%
Network & hub design: clear Wi-Fi/coverage plan, correct hub decision, and a sound plan for Nigerian power and internet outages25%
Install & handover checklist: logical order, safety steps for mains work, sensible naming/rooms, useful automations, and proper security (defaults, 2FA, firmware, Wi-Fi)25%
Pricing: device cost and labour shown separately, deposit/payment terms, warranty, and a clear naira grand total15%
Nigerian context and honesty: real places, naira figures, local platforms, NEPA/data realities and ethical/privacy considerations throughout10%

You need 65% overall to pass. A failed submission comes back with feedback and can be revised and resubmitted.

Before you submit: make your link public

If your work lives in Google Drive or Google Docs, open Share → General access and change “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link” (Viewer). Then paste the link into a private browser window: if it opens without sign-in, you are ready. A private link cannot be graded — it is the single most common reason a good project fails.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to finish Smart Home Installation before submitting the project?

Yes. The submission screen opens once every lesson in Smart Home Installation is marked complete. The lessons are where the methods, the Nigerian context and the worked examples the project depends on are taught.

How is the project graded?

An examiner scores each rubric criterion from 0 to 100 and weights them as shown on this page; you need 65% overall to pass. Most submissions are graded within minutes and you get written feedback on what was strong and what to improve.

Can I resubmit if I fail?

Yes. A failed project comes back with feedback; revise the weak parts and resubmit. A passed project is final — the certificate is issued and cannot be re-rolled.

What do I actually submit?

A write-up of what you did (under 5,000 characters) plus a public link to your work — a Google Drive folder, Google Doc, spreadsheet, GitHub repository or video. The link must open without sign-in; a private link cannot be graded. The free project workbook on this page walks you through all 6 steps.

Is the certificate real?

Yes. Passing this project issues a certificate with a unique verification code. Anyone — an employer, a client, a school — can open the verification page and see that the certificate is genuine and which project earned it.
