What you will submit
A single shared link or document containing the room measurements, the material estimate with naira costs, the step-by-step method, and a professional client quote for one room.
What to do, step by step
- Choose a real room you can access or a clearly described sample one (a sitting room, bathroom, kitchen or shop floor). Note its shape, the surface condition, where the door and any fittings are, and whether it is a wet area needing a fall to a drain.
- Measure the space and show your working: give the length and width (breaking any irregular shape into rectangles), calculate the total area in square metres, and state the tile size and layout pattern you have chosen and why it suits the room.
- Build a full material estimate with realistic 2026 naira costs: the number of tiles including a stated waste allowance, bags of adhesive (using bag coverage), grout, spacers, silicone, primer/sealer, and screed sand and cement if the floor needs levelling — each with quantity and price.
- Write out your method as a clear step-by-step plan: surface preparation (including any screeding or fall to drain), your set-out (where the centre lines and first tile go, and where the cuts will fall), laying and cutting, then grouting and finishing.
- Write a professional client quote: list the materials with quantities and prices, a separate labour figure (per square metre or as a lump), transport and helper costs, your deposit terms, what the quote does and does not cover, and a clear grand total in naira.
- Combine the measurements, material estimate, method and quote into a single shareable document or link (Google Doc, PDF or image set) that you could genuinely hand to a paying client.

| Criterion | Weight |
|---|---|
| Measurement and estimating: correct area calculation, a sensible tile count with a stated waste allowance, and a complete material list (adhesive bags, grout, spacers, silicone, screed materials) with realistic quantities | 25% |
| Layout and set-out: a clear, deliberate layout (centre lines, where the first tile and the cuts fall, pattern choice) that balances edge cuts and lays full tiles where the eye lands | 20% |
| Method and quality: a correct step-by-step plan covering surface prep (and any fall to drain), laying and bedding to avoid lippage and hollow tiles, cutting, and grouting/finishing | 25% |
| Professional quote: itemised materials + labour at fair Nigerian rates, transport and helper costs, deposit terms, scope, and a correct naira grand total | 20% |
| Nigerian context and presentation: realistic 2026 naira figures, real materials and conditions, and a neat document genuinely presentable to a paying client | 10% |
You need 65% overall to pass. A failed submission comes back with feedback and can be revised and resubmitted.
Before you submit: make your link public
If your work lives in Google Drive or Google Docs, open Share → General access and change “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link” (Viewer). Then paste the link into a private browser window: if it opens without sign-in, you are ready. A private link cannot be graded — it is the single most common reason a good project fails.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to finish Tiling & Flooring Basics before submitting the project?
Yes. The submission screen opens once every lesson in Tiling & Flooring Basics is marked complete. The lessons are where the methods, the Nigerian context and the worked examples the project depends on are taught.
How is the project graded?
An examiner scores each rubric criterion from 0 to 100 and weights them as shown on this page; you need 65% overall to pass. Most submissions are graded within minutes and you get written feedback on what was strong and what to improve.
Can I resubmit if I fail?
Yes. A failed project comes back with feedback; revise the weak parts and resubmit. A passed project is final — the certificate is issued and cannot be re-rolled.
What do I actually submit?
A write-up of what you did (under 5,000 characters) plus a public link to your work — a Google Drive folder, Google Doc, spreadsheet, GitHub repository or video. The link must open without sign-in; a private link cannot be graded. The free project workbook on this page walks you through all 6 steps.
Is the certificate real?
Yes. Passing this project issues a certificate with a unique verification code. Anyone — an employer, a client, a school — can open the verification page and see that the certificate is genuine and which project earned it.
