What you will submit
A single shared link or document containing the working drawing, an itemised materials-and-tools list with naira costs, the build steps with safety notes, and a professional client quote for one fabrication item.
What to do, step by step
- Choose one fabrication item to plan — ideally a gate, but a set of window burglary-proofs, an iron door, a water-tank stand or a balcony railing is also fine. If you can access a real opening or location, use its real measurements; otherwise describe a clear, realistic Nigerian sample (e.g. a 3.6m × 2.1m driveway gate for a compound in your area).
- Make a clear working drawing or sketch of the item with its overall dimensions and the size, type and quantity of each steel piece in it (frame members, infill bars, braces, hinges). Hand-drawn and photographed is fine, as long as the measurements and pieces are clear.
- Build an itemised materials list with realistic 2026 naira costs: every steel section converted into how many standard lengths to buy (with a waste allowance), plus all consumables and fittings — welding rods, cutting and grinding discs, anti-rust primer, paint and thinner, hinges, lock or bolt, and wall anchors — each with quantity and price. Then list the tools and the finishing method (painted, or premium galvanised/powder-coated).
- Write the build steps in sensible order — measure and cut, build and check the square frame (including the equal-diagonals check), add the infill, fit hinges and lock, control distortion, then clean, prime and paint — and call out the key SAFETY points in your own words (eyes/helmet, fumes/ventilation, fire/sparks, electric shock, the grinder).
- Write a professional client quote that keeps the parts clearly separate — materials (with a sensible markup), labour priced to the job's size and difficulty, finishing, and logistics/transport (including generator fuel) — ending in a clear naira grand total. Add your terms: the deposit you'd take, how long the price is valid, your workmanship warranty, and what is NOT included. Include at least one honest note about a real risk or pitfall (e.g. 'steel prices may rise within the week' or 'a gate this size needs a diagonal brace or it will sag').
- Combine the drawing, the costed materials-and-tools list, the build steps with safety notes, and the client quote into a single shareable document or link (Google Doc, PDF, or clear typed text with the drawing photo) that you could genuinely hand to a paying client.

| Criterion | Weight |
|---|---|
| Drawing and build plan: a clear working drawing with dimensions and piece counts, and build steps in sensible order (cut, square frame with diagonals check, infill, hinges/lock, distortion control, finishing) | 25% |
| Materials and tools list: complete and correctly chosen (right steel sections and thickness, standard lengths with a waste allowance, the consumables and fittings actually needed) with quantities and the finishing method stated | 25% |
| Professional quote: materials (with sensible markup), labour, finishing and logistics kept clearly separate, with a correct naira grand total, plus deposit, price validity, warranty and exclusions | 20% |
| Safety: the key welding hazards (eyes/arc flash, fumes/ventilation, fire/sparks, electric shock, the grinder) are correctly identified and addressed in the plan | 20% |
| Nigerian context and realism: realistic 2026 naira figures, real steel/generator/rust considerations, and at least one honest pitfall flagged; the document is neat and presentable to a paying client | 10% |
You need 65% overall to pass. A failed submission comes back with feedback and can be revised and resubmitted.
Before you submit: make your link public
If your work lives in Google Drive or Google Docs, open Share → General access and change “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link” (Viewer). Then paste the link into a private browser window: if it opens without sign-in, you are ready. A private link cannot be graded — it is the single most common reason a good project fails.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to finish Welding & Metal Fabrication before submitting the project?
Yes. The submission screen opens once every lesson in Welding & Metal Fabrication is marked complete. The lessons are where the methods, the Nigerian context and the worked examples the project depends on are taught.
How is the project graded?
An examiner scores each rubric criterion from 0 to 100 and weights them as shown on this page; you need 65% overall to pass. Most submissions are graded within minutes and you get written feedback on what was strong and what to improve.
Can I resubmit if I fail?
Yes. A failed project comes back with feedback; revise the weak parts and resubmit. A passed project is final — the certificate is issued and cannot be re-rolled.
What do I actually submit?
A write-up of what you did (under 5,000 characters) plus a public link to your work — a Google Drive folder, Google Doc, spreadsheet, GitHub repository or video. The link must open without sign-in; a private link cannot be graded. The free project workbook on this page walks you through all 6 steps.
Is the certificate real?
Yes. Passing this project issues a certificate with a unique verification code. Anyone — an employer, a client, a school — can open the verification page and see that the certificate is genuine and which project earned it.
