About this course
Skincare is one of the fastest-growing beauty businesses in Nigeria, and one of the most dangerous when it is done wrong: creams that lighten by damaging the skin, peels by untrained hands, 'organic' mixes nobody can name. This course is the safe, ethical foundation for facials and skincare consulting. You will learn how melanin-rich skin behaves and why harsh products backfire, how to read a product label and recognise the banned and dangerous ones, how to keep a treatment room and home-service kit hygienic, how to do a classic facial step by step with gentle exfoliation, steam, extractions done carefully, masks, massage and sunscreen, how to build routines for acne-prone, oily, dry, sensitive and hyperpigmented skin with over-the-counter products and an honest timeline, how to add body treatments, how to retail products without medical claims or lightening promises, and how to price, book, do home service and list your service on Skill Market. It teaches what an esthetician does and where a doctor takes over; it never teaches diagnosis, treatment, peels, needles or lightening. Free, like every Skillnaija course.
It is Saturday morning at Glow Room by Amaka, a converted bedroom in Enugu. A new client, sent by a friend, takes off her scarf and Amaka sees it at once: dark and light patches across her cheeks, skin that looks thin and shiny, and fine stretch marks along her jaw. For a year she has used a 'seven-day glow' cream scooped into an unlabelled tub at the market. Amaka does not start the facial. She explains gently that the cream may have hurt her skin, writes what she saw in the record, and asks her to see a doctor, ideally a dermatologist, before any treatment. That afternoon her sister Chiamaka calls from her online shop. Three customers want to know where to buy that same cream.
