What you will submit
A shareable Google Sheets (or Excel Online) link containing tabs for the General Journal, ledger T-accounts, a balanced Trial Balance, a completed Bank Reconciliation, and a short Notes tab.
What to do, step by step
- Use the provided list of 20-30 sample BrightLine transactions for one month (cash sales, credit sales, supplier purchases on credit, payments to suppliers, customer collections, petty cash spending, a NEPA/diesel bill, salary payment with PAYE/pension/NHF withheld, and bank charges). In Google Sheets, create one tab for your General Journal and record every transaction with a date, debit account, credit account, equal amounts, a clear narration, and a reference.
- Post your journal entries to ledger (T-account) tabs — at minimum Cash, Bank, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Sales, Inventory/Cost of Sales, and the statutory payable accounts — and show each account's closing balance.
- Prepare a Trial Balance tab listing every account with its closing balance in the correct debit or credit column, and confirm the two columns total to exactly the same figure.
- Prepare a Bank Reconciliation tab: start from the given bank statement balance, tick matching items, add uncleared lodgements, subtract unpresented payments, adjust your cash book for bank charges/COT/SMS fees, and show that your corrected cash book balance equals the adjusted bank balance.
- On a short Notes tab, explain any two reconciling items in plain English and state one control weakness you noticed in the month's transactions (e.g. a possible duplicate invoice or unreceipted petty cash) and how you would fix it.
- Set the Sheet's sharing to 'Anyone with the link can view' and submit the link.

| Criterion | Weight |
|---|---|
| Journals — correct debits/credits, balanced entries, clear narrations and references for every transaction | 25% |

| Trial Balance — all accounts listed in the correct column with debit and credit totals that agree exactly | 25% |
| Bank Reconciliation — correct method, all reconciling items handled, corrected cash book equals adjusted bank balance | 20% |
| Professionalism — tidy, well-labelled tabs, sensible accounts, and a clear, sensible Notes explanation | 10% |
You need 65% overall to pass. A failed submission comes back with feedback and can be revised and resubmitted.
Before you submit: make your link public
If your work lives in Google Drive or Google Docs, open Share → General access and change “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link” (Viewer). Then paste the link into a private browser window: if it opens without sign-in, you are ready. A private link cannot be graded — it is the single most common reason a good project fails.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to finish Accounting Assistant Training before submitting the project?
Yes. The submission screen opens once every lesson in Accounting Assistant Training is marked complete. The lessons are where the methods, the Nigerian context and the worked examples the project depends on are taught.
How is the project graded?
An examiner scores each rubric criterion from 0 to 100 and weights them as shown on this page; you need 65% overall to pass. Most submissions are graded within minutes and you get written feedback on what was strong and what to improve.
Can I resubmit if I fail?
Yes. A failed project comes back with feedback; revise the weak parts and resubmit. A passed project is final — the certificate is issued and cannot be re-rolled.
What do I actually submit?
A write-up of what you did (under 5,000 characters) plus a public link to your work — a Google Drive folder, Google Doc, spreadsheet, GitHub repository or video. The link must open without sign-in; a private link cannot be graded. The free project workbook on this page walks you through all 6 steps.
Is the certificate real?
Yes. Passing this project issues a certificate with a unique verification code. Anyone — an employer, a client, a school — can open the verification page and see that the certificate is genuine and which project earned it.
