What you will submit

One shared folder link (Google Drive or OneDrive with view access) or one uploaded ZIP containing: the folder-tree screenshot, the Word files, the Excel workbook, the PowerPoint file and its PDF, and a document that holds the email text and the safety checklist. Everything fictional; no real personal data.

What to do, step by step

  1. You are the new office assistant at a small fictional business of your choice (a pharmacy, a school, a building-materials shop, a church office, a logistics firm, anything you like). Invent its name, address and a short list of ten customers or members with fictional names. Do not use any real person's name, phone number or address, and do not use your employer's real documents.
  2. Part 1. The folder tree: create a folder structure for the business with at least three levels (for example Admin, Customers, Finance, HR, with sub-folders and a naming convention). Take a screenshot of it in File Explorer or Google Drive and write two or three sentences on your naming rule and your backup routine.
  3. Part 2. Word: (a) a one-page business letter on a letterhead you designed, produced with Mail Merge to at least five of your fictional customers from an Excel list (submit the merged result or three of the letters), and (b) a one-page internal memo with a heading style, a numbered list and a small table. Both in A4, with page numbers and a footer.
  4. Part 3. Excel: one workbook with two sheets: a stock register (at least 15 items with quantity, reorder level and a formula or conditional format that flags items to reorder) and a payment or fee tracker (at least 20 rows with dates, amounts in naira format, a running balance, and a SUMIF or COUNTIF summary). Include one chart with a sentence title.
  5. Part 4. PowerPoint: a ten-slide monthly report for the business owner with a title slide, an agenda, at least one chart from your Excel workbook, no more than six lines of text on any slide, speaker notes on at least three slides, and a closing slide with next steps. Export it to PDF as well.
  6. Part 5. The email: write the professional email you would send to the owner to deliver this pack, with a clear subject line, a short body that lists what is attached and one question you need answered, and your signature. Paste the email text into your submission document (do not actually send it to anyone).
  7. Part 6. The safety note: a half-page checklist of how you keep the business's computer and data safe: updates, backups, passwords, two-step verification, locking the screen, USB rules, and what you would do if an email asked you to pay an unusual invoice.

How it is graded

CriterionWeight
The folder tree is logical, at least three levels deep, and the naming and backup rules are sensible12%
The letter is mail-merged correctly on a clean letterhead and the memo uses styles, a numbered list and a table, both in A4 with page numbers22%
The Excel workbook has correct formulas, naira formatting, a working reorder flag, a running balance, a SUMIF or COUNTIF summary and a titled chart24%
The ten-slide deck is readable (six-line rule), includes a chart and speaker notes, and exports cleanly to PDF18%
The delivery email is professional: clear subject, short body, attachments listed, one question, a signature12%
The safety checklist is complete and shows understanding of phishing, backups and access control12%

You need 65% overall to pass. A failed submission comes back with feedback and can be revised and resubmitted.

Before you submit: make your link public

If your work lives in Google Drive or Google Docs, open Share → General access and change “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link” (Viewer). Then paste the link into a private browser window: if it opens without sign-in, you are ready. A private link cannot be graded — it is the single most common reason a good project fails.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to finish Computer & Microsoft Office Essentials before submitting the project?

Yes. The submission screen opens once every lesson in Computer & Microsoft Office Essentials is marked complete. The lessons are where the methods, the Nigerian context and the worked examples the project depends on are taught.

How is the project graded?

An examiner scores each rubric criterion from 0 to 100 and weights them as shown on this page; you need 65% overall to pass. Most submissions are graded within minutes and you get written feedback on what was strong and what to improve.

Can I resubmit if I fail?

Yes. A failed project comes back with feedback; revise the weak parts and resubmit. A passed project is final — the certificate is issued and cannot be re-rolled.

What do I actually submit?

A write-up of what you did (under 5,000 characters) plus a public link to your work — a Google Drive folder, Google Doc, spreadsheet, GitHub repository or video. The link must open without sign-in; a private link cannot be graded. The free project workbook on this page walks you through all 7 steps.

Is the certificate real?

Yes. Passing this project issues a certificate with a unique verification code. Anyone — an employer, a client, a school — can open the verification page and see that the certificate is genuine and which project earned it.
