What you will submit

A shareable service-plan document containing a maintenance schedule/checklist, a six-fault diagnosis guide, a naira price list, a customer safety section, and a maintenance-contract offer.

What to do, step by step

  1. Pick one common Nigerian generator (e.g. a 2.5kVA or 3.5kVA petrol gen) and write a routine maintenance schedule and checklist for it: list every service task (oil change, air filter, fuel bowl drain, spark plug check, pull-rope check, load test, etc.) and exactly when each is due in running hours or months.
  2. Create a fault-diagnosis guide covering at least six common faults (e.g. won't start, starts then dies, no power at socket, black smoke, surging, trips under load). For each, list the symptoms, the most likely causes in order of checking, and the fix — reflecting the logical air/fuel/compression/spark approach.
  3. Build a clear naira service price list separating labour, parts (with markup), and any call-out fee, covering routine service, carburettor wash, and at least two common part replacements.
  4. Include a short safety section the customer can read: how to run the gen safely (carbon monoxide / placement), how to handle and store fuel, and the oil-before-every-use reminder.
  5. Add a one-paragraph maintenance-contract offer aimed at a shop, estate or office — what is included, how often, and the monthly price.
  6. Present it as a tidy document or shareable link (Google Doc, PDF, Canva, or a clear typed note) that you could hand or send to a real paying customer.

How it is graded

CriterionWeight
Maintenance schedule/checklist is complete, correct and realistically timed25%
Fault-diagnosis guide covers 6+ faults with ordered causes and correct fixes30%
Naira price list is clear, fair and separates labour, parts and call-out20%
Safety section correctly covers carbon monoxide, fuel handling and oil checks15%
Document is professional, clear and ready to share with a real customer10%

You need 65% overall to pass. A failed submission comes back with feedback and can be revised and resubmitted.

Before you submit: make your link public

If your work lives in Google Drive or Google Docs, open Share → General access and change “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link” (Viewer). Then paste the link into a private browser window: if it opens without sign-in, you are ready. A private link cannot be graded — it is the single most common reason a good project fails.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to finish Generator Maintenance Basics before submitting the project?

Yes. The submission screen opens once every lesson in Generator Maintenance Basics is marked complete. The lessons are where the methods, the Nigerian context and the worked examples the project depends on are taught.

How is the project graded?

An examiner scores each rubric criterion from 0 to 100 and weights them as shown on this page; you need 65% overall to pass. Most submissions are graded within minutes and you get written feedback on what was strong and what to improve.

Can I resubmit if I fail?

Yes. A failed project comes back with feedback; revise the weak parts and resubmit. A passed project is final — the certificate is issued and cannot be re-rolled.

What do I actually submit?

A write-up of what you did (under 5,000 characters) plus a public link to your work — a Google Drive folder, Google Doc, spreadsheet, GitHub repository or video. The link must open without sign-in; a private link cannot be graded. The free project workbook on this page walks you through all 6 steps.

Is the certificate real?

Yes. Passing this project issues a certificate with a unique verification code. Anyone — an employer, a client, a school — can open the verification page and see that the certificate is genuine and which project earned it.
