What you will submit
One document (Google Doc shared with view access, or an uploaded Word or PDF file) with a headed section for each of the six parts. Tables may be in the document or in a linked spreadsheet.
What to do, step by step
- You are a junior consultant at Sentinel Risk Advisory. Your client is Meridian Haulage & Distribution Ltd, which runs a distribution warehouse in Ogba, Lagos, holding fast-moving consumer goods for three manufacturers. Over four months stock counts have come up short by about ₦38 million, mostly cartons of high-value toiletries and baby formula. The site has a perimeter wall with one vehicle gate and one pedestrian gate, eleven contract guards on two shifts from an outside guard company, eight CCTV cameras of which three do not work, a generator that runs when the grid fails, 46 staff, and casual loaders hired daily at the gate. Deliveries leave between 5 am and 8 am. Produce one document with a clearly headed section for each part below. State every assumption you make, and wherever you rely on a law or a standard, name it.
- Part 1. Risk register: list at least seven security risks to this site. For each give the asset affected, the threat, the vulnerability that lets it happen, a likelihood score and an impact score from 1 to 5, the combined score, and the treatment you recommend. Rank them, and say in three or four sentences which two you would deal with first and why.
- Part 2. Protection in layers: set out a practical improvement plan under the headings deter, detect, delay and respond. Include access control for casual loaders, key and seal control for outbound vehicles, what to do about the three dead cameras and about power cuts, and what the Nigeria Data Protection Act requires of the client for its CCTV. Put the measures in priority order with a rough cost band for each: low, medium or high.
- Part 3. Post orders: write the post orders for the vehicle gate for one shift, on no more than one page. Cover the purpose of the post, the checks on every outbound vehicle, what goes in the occurrence book, the handover, who to call and when, and exactly what the guard may and may not do if they suspect theft, including the limits on searching, detaining and using force and the duty to hand a suspect to the police.
- Part 4. Investigation plan: the client now asks you to find out how the stock is leaving. Write the engagement scope in a short paragraph, then a legality check listing at least four things you will not do and why, such as accessing bank or telecom records, recording calls, tracking private vehicles, or impersonating an official. State two or three hypotheses, and build an evidence matrix showing for each what would prove or disprove it, the lawful source, and who collects it. Say at what point and to whom you would hand the matter over.
- Part 5. Interview plan: choose one person you would interview, for example the dispatch supervisor, and write a plan using the PEACE model. Include your aims, what you already know, how you will explain the purpose and that the interview is voluntary, your first three open questions, how you will record it, and what you will not say or do.
- Part 6. Findings and exhibits: invent a reasonable outcome and write a findings summary of 250 to 400 words that separates facts, sources, findings and limits, and makes no accusation the evidence does not support. Add an exhibit log with at least four items showing the exhibit number, description, where and when it was obtained, by whom, and how it has been stored.

| Criterion | Weight |
|---|---|
| The risk register identifies realistic risks for this site, scores them consistently, and the priorities follow from the scores | 18% |
| The protection plan is layered, practical for Nigerian conditions, prioritised by cost, and deals correctly with CCTV and data protection | 16% |
| The post orders are clear enough for a guard to follow and state the legal limits on search, detention and force accurately | 16% |
| The investigation plan has a sound scope, a legality check that rules out unlawful methods, testable hypotheses and a usable evidence matrix | 22% |
| The interview plan follows the PEACE model, is voluntary and fair, and contains no threats, promises or deception | 12% |
| The findings summary separates fact from inference and the exhibit log shows a continuous chain of custody | 16% |
You need 65% overall to pass. A failed submission comes back with feedback and can be revised and resubmitted.
Before you submit: make your link public
If your work lives in Google Drive or Google Docs, open Share → General access and change “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link” (Viewer). Then paste the link into a private browser window: if it opens without sign-in, you are ready. A private link cannot be graded — it is the single most common reason a good project fails.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to finish Private Investigation & Security Practice (Nigeria & Global Standards) before submitting the project?
Yes. The submission screen opens once every lesson in Private Investigation & Security Practice (Nigeria & Global Standards) is marked complete. The lessons are where the methods, the Nigerian context and the worked examples the project depends on are taught.
How is the project graded?
An examiner scores each rubric criterion from 0 to 100 and weights them as shown on this page; you need 65% overall to pass. Most submissions are graded within minutes and you get written feedback on what was strong and what to improve.
Can I resubmit if I fail?
Yes. A failed project comes back with feedback; revise the weak parts and resubmit. A passed project is final — the certificate is issued and cannot be re-rolled.
What do I actually submit?
A write-up of what you did (under 5,000 characters) plus a public link to your work — a Google Drive folder, Google Doc, spreadsheet, GitHub repository or video. The link must open without sign-in; a private link cannot be graded. The free project workbook on this page walks you through all 7 steps.
Is the certificate real?
Yes. Passing this project issues a certificate with a unique verification code. Anyone — an employer, a client, a school — can open the verification page and see that the certificate is genuine and which project earned it.
