What you will submit
One public, viewable link to a complete, properly structured and professionally formatted script — either a 5-minute YouTube video script or a short film/skit scene — including the logline at the top.
What to do, step by step
- Choose ONE format for your script: either a 5-minute YouTube video script (on a topic you know) or a short film / comedy skit scene (2–5 minutes of screen time). Pick the one you're most excited to write.
- Start by writing a one-sentence logline and a short outline of your key beats (hook/opening, inciting incident or main idea, rising complications, climax/payoff, resolution or close) so your story has a clear shape before you write scenes.
- Write the full script applying the craft from the course: a strong hook in the opening, clear conflict or a clear value promise, characters with a want (for film/skit) or direct 'you' address and retention beats (for YouTube), and dialogue or narration that sounds real and tight.
- Format it professionally and consistently: for a film/skit use proper screenplay format (INT./EXT. scene headings, present-tense action describing only what we see and hear, character names above dialogue); for a YouTube script use a clean script-and-visuals layout (what is said alongside what is shown on screen).
- Rewrite and polish at least once: read it aloud, cut the slow or pointless lines, sharpen the dialogue, strengthen the ending, and fix spelling and layout so anyone could shoot from it without needing to ask you what you meant.
- Save your finished script as a publicly viewable link (a shareable Google Doc, a Google Drive PDF, or a Notion/Carrd page) and submit that single link.
Files to work with

| Criterion | Weight |
|---|---|
| Structure and hook: the script has a clear shape (strong opening hook, a middle that builds, and a satisfying payoff/close) with a logline that captures it | 25% |
| Characters and conflict (or value and retention for YouTube): clear want/obstacle and real characters for film/skit, or a clear promise plus retention beats for YouTube | 20% |
| Dialogue or narration: lines sound real and tight, reveal character or move the story, with distinct voices (film/skit) or direct, engaging 'you' address (YouTube) | 20% |
| Formatting: correct, consistent professional format (screenplay slug lines/action/dialogue, or a clean script-and-visuals layout) that someone could shoot from | 25% |
| Polish: clean spelling, tidy layout, no slow or pointless lines, evidence of a rewrite — overall reads as professional and ready | 10% |
You need 65% overall to pass. A failed submission comes back with feedback and can be revised and resubmitted.
Before you submit: make your link public
If your work lives in Google Drive or Google Docs, open Share → General access and change “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link” (Viewer). Then paste the link into a private browser window: if it opens without sign-in, you are ready. A private link cannot be graded — it is the single most common reason a good project fails.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to finish Scriptwriting for YouTube & Film before submitting the project?
Yes. The submission screen opens once every lesson in Scriptwriting for YouTube & Film is marked complete. The lessons are where the methods, the Nigerian context and the worked examples the project depends on are taught.
How is the project graded?
An examiner scores each rubric criterion from 0 to 100 and weights them as shown on this page; you need 65% overall to pass. Most submissions are graded within minutes and you get written feedback on what was strong and what to improve.
Can I resubmit if I fail?
Yes. A failed project comes back with feedback; revise the weak parts and resubmit. A passed project is final — the certificate is issued and cannot be re-rolled.
What do I actually submit?
A write-up of what you did (under 5,000 characters) plus a public link to your work — a Google Drive folder, Google Doc, spreadsheet, GitHub repository or video. The link must open without sign-in; a private link cannot be graded. The free project workbook on this page walks you through all 6 steps.
Is the certificate real?
Yes. Passing this project issues a certificate with a unique verification code. Anyone — an employer, a client, a school — can open the verification page and see that the certificate is genuine and which project earned it.
