What you will submit

A shared Google Doc link containing, with clear headings: (1) a one-page topic summary in your own words with a verification note, (2) at least 8 practice questions with an answer key, (3) an essay/project outline plus at least 3 REAL sources each with a citation and a how-verified note, and (4) a short AI-use integrity note.

What to do, step by step

  1. Pick ONE real topic you are currently studying (e.g. 'osmosis', 'the law of demand', 'normalisation in databases', or any course topic) and state your subject and level at the top.
  2. Using NotebookLM, ChatGPT or Gemini on your own notes/PDF, produce a one-page SUMMARY of the topic in your own words — key points, definitions and any formulas — then add one line noting how you checked the summary against your original material for accuracy.
  3. Generate a set of at least 8 PRACTICE QUESTIONS on the topic (a mix of recall and application), and include an answer key — write the answers in your own words to prove you understand, not just copied AI text.
  4. Build an ESSAY OR PROJECT OUTLINE on the topic (introduction, 3-5 main points/sections, conclusion) AND find at least 3 REAL sources for it: for each source give the full citation in your department's style (APA/MLA/etc.) plus a one-line note on how you VERIFIED it exists (e.g. 'found and opened on Google Scholar', 'DOI resolves at doi.org', 'on AJOL').
  5. Write a short INTEGRITY NOTE (3-5 sentences) stating exactly which AI tools you used and for what, confirming all sources were personally verified, and confirming the understanding and words are your own — the kind of disclosure you could hand a lecturer.
  6. Put everything in one shared Google Doc (set link sharing to 'anyone with the link can view') with clear headings for Summary, Practice Questions + Answers, Outline + Verified Sources, and Integrity Note, and submit the link.

How it is graded

CriterionWeight
Summary quality — accurate, in the student's own words, covers the key points/definitions/formulas, with a genuine note on how it was checked against the source20%
Practice questions — at least 8 questions mixing recall and application, with a correct answer key written in the student's own words20%
Essay/project outline — logical structure (intro, main points, conclusion) that genuinely fits the topic20%
Verified REAL sources — at least 3 sources that actually exist, correctly cited in a named style, each with a credible how-verified note (no hallucinated references)25%
Integrity note and overall clarity — honest disclosure of AI use, confirmation of personal verification, and a clean, well-organised, working document15%

You need 65% overall to pass. A failed submission comes back with feedback and can be revised and resubmitted.

Before you submit: make your link public

If your work lives in Google Drive or Google Docs, open Share → General access and change “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link” (Viewer). Then paste the link into a private browser window: if it opens without sign-in, you are ready. A private link cannot be graded — it is the single most common reason a good project fails.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to finish AI for Students & Research before submitting the project?

Yes. The submission screen opens once every lesson in AI for Students & Research is marked complete. The lessons are where the methods, the Nigerian context and the worked examples the project depends on are taught.

How is the project graded?

An examiner scores each rubric criterion from 0 to 100 and weights them as shown on this page; you need 65% overall to pass. Most submissions are graded within minutes and you get written feedback on what was strong and what to improve.

Can I resubmit if I fail?

Yes. A failed project comes back with feedback; revise the weak parts and resubmit. A passed project is final — the certificate is issued and cannot be re-rolled.

What do I actually submit?

A write-up of what you did (under 5,000 characters) plus a public link to your work — a Google Drive folder, Google Doc, spreadsheet, GitHub repository or video. The link must open without sign-in; a private link cannot be graded. The free project workbook on this page walks you through all 6 steps.

Is the certificate real?

Yes. Passing this project issues a certificate with a unique verification code. Anyone — an employer, a client, a school — can open the verification page and see that the certificate is genuine and which project earned it.
