What you will submit

A public link to your skit package: the written script plus the shot-and-edited short (or detailed shoot plan), including your polish note and monetisation note.

What to do, step by step

  1. Write a complete skit script using the lightweight format from Lesson 4: include the premise in one sentence, the scene/location, characters, full dialogue (in authentic Nigerian speech or pidgin where natural), and brief action lines. The script must have a clear hook in the first three seconds and a genuinely surprising punchline near the end, and read tight (roughly 15–60 seconds of screen time).
  2. Run your script through the pre-shoot polish checklist (hook in three seconds, a stranger can follow it, surprising punchline, every dead line cut, real speech, could be 30% shorter) and note in a sentence or two what you tightened.
  3. Shoot the skit on your phone applying the fundamentals from Lesson 5 — good light on your face, clear sound, vertical 9:16 framing, and a steady propped or tripod-held phone — using multiple takes. (If you genuinely cannot shoot, instead write a detailed shoot plan: shot list, locations, characters/costumes, lighting and sound setup, and how you'll edit it.)
  4. Edit the footage free on CapCut as in Lesson 6: trim all dead air, add and correct auto-captions, place at least one sound effect or beat of silence on the punchline, use only licensed/royalty-free music, and export at 1080p. (Shoot-plan submitters describe the intended edit instead.)
  5. Upload the finished short to TikTok, Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts with a curiosity-sparking caption and relevant hashtags, then share the public link (or, for a shoot plan, share a link to the written package).
  6. Add a short note (3–5 sentences) explaining who your target audience is, which platforms you'd post it on, and how you would monetise this style of skit over time (e.g. which local brands you'd pitch).

How it is graded

CriterionWeight
Script quality — clear premise, fast hook, tight setup and a genuinely surprising punchline written in authentic Nigerian speech30%
Comedy & relatability — the skit is actually funny and rooted in a recognisable Nigerian situation an audience would relate to and share25%
Production quality — light, sound, vertical framing, stability, tight editing, corrected captions, and only licensed music25%
Distribution & monetisation plan — sound choice of platforms, caption/hashtags, and a realistic plan to earn from this style of skit20%

You need 65% overall to pass. A failed submission comes back with feedback and can be revised and resubmitted.

Before you submit: make your link public

If your work lives in Google Drive or Google Docs, open Share → General access and change “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link” (Viewer). Then paste the link into a private browser window: if it opens without sign-in, you are ready. A private link cannot be graded — it is the single most common reason a good project fails.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to finish Comedy Writing & Skit Production before submitting the project?

Yes. The submission screen opens once every lesson in Comedy Writing & Skit Production is marked complete. The lessons are where the methods, the Nigerian context and the worked examples the project depends on are taught.

How is the project graded?

An examiner scores each rubric criterion from 0 to 100 and weights them as shown on this page; you need 65% overall to pass. Most submissions are graded within minutes and you get written feedback on what was strong and what to improve.

Can I resubmit if I fail?

Yes. A failed project comes back with feedback; revise the weak parts and resubmit. A passed project is final — the certificate is issued and cannot be re-rolled.

What do I actually submit?

A write-up of what you did (under 5,000 characters) plus a public link to your work — a Google Drive folder, Google Doc, spreadsheet, GitHub repository or video. The link must open without sign-in; a private link cannot be graded. The free project workbook on this page walks you through all 6 steps.

Is the certificate real?

Yes. Passing this project issues a certificate with a unique verification code. Anyone — an employer, a client, a school — can open the verification page and see that the certificate is genuine and which project earned it.
