What you will submit
One document (Google Doc with view access, or an uploaded Word or PDF file) with a headed section for each of the five parts, screenshots embedded, and links to the clip and any exported files. All annotation must be your own; a partner may provide the second pass in Part 4 if named.
What to do, step by step
- Use a 10 to 15 second clip you have the right to use, with at least two kinds of moving object and at least three distinct actions or events (for example a keke stopping, a person crossing, a door opening). No close-up faces; blur or avoid number plates. Keep it under 30 MB.
- Part 1. Segmentation: in CVAT or another free tool, draw instance masks (not boxes) for two classes and keep each instance's identity across at least 20 frames using propagation or keyframes, correcting drift as Lesson 3 teaches. Include screenshots of three frames.
- Part 2. Action timeline: annotate at least three actions or events with start and end frames or timestamps, and write one sentence per boundary explaining why it starts and ends where it does, noting any overlap or ambiguity as Lesson 5 teaches.
- Part 3. Guideline v1: write a guideline for this clip with a taxonomy (classes and attributes), at least 10 numbered rules, and 5 edge-case decisions written as a decision log (situation, decision, reason), following Lesson 8 and Lesson 11.
- Part 4. QA audit: annotate the boxes or masks for one class twice, at least a day apart, or have a partner annotate it once. Compare the two passes, estimate agreement in plain words with a simple count (for example, of 40 frames, both passes agreed on 34), list the disagreements, and write the feedback note you would send an annotator, as Lesson 9 and Lesson 10 teach.
- Part 5. Dataset card: write a one-page dataset card: what the clip contains, where and when it was filmed, whose consent you had, what personal data it contains and how you treated it under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, what the dataset under-represents (bias), and what it should and should not be used to train.
Files to work with

| Criterion | Weight |
|---|---|
| Instance masks are clean at the edges and keep identity across frames | 20% |
| Action boundaries are defensible and ambiguity is acknowledged, not hidden | 14% |
| The guideline has a usable taxonomy, clear rules and a genuine decision log | 22% |
| The QA audit compares two passes honestly and the feedback note would improve an annotator | 22% |
| The dataset card treats consent, personal data and bias seriously and accurately | 22% |
You need 65% overall to pass. A failed submission comes back with feedback and can be revised and resubmitted.
Before you submit: make your link public
If your work lives in Google Drive or Google Docs, open Share → General access and change “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link” (Viewer). Then paste the link into a private browser window: if it opens without sign-in, you are ready. A private link cannot be graded — it is the single most common reason a good project fails.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to finish Video Annotation for AI Pro: Segmentation, Actions, 3D and Leading Quality before submitting the project?
Yes. The submission screen opens once every lesson in Video Annotation for AI Pro: Segmentation, Actions, 3D and Leading Quality is marked complete. The lessons are where the methods, the Nigerian context and the worked examples the project depends on are taught.
How is the project graded?
An examiner scores each rubric criterion from 0 to 100 and weights them as shown on this page; you need 65% overall to pass. Most submissions are graded within minutes and you get written feedback on what was strong and what to improve.
Can I resubmit if I fail?
Yes. A failed project comes back with feedback; revise the weak parts and resubmit. A passed project is final — the certificate is issued and cannot be re-rolled.
What do I actually submit?
A write-up of what you did (under 5,000 characters) plus a public link to your work — a Google Drive folder, Google Doc, spreadsheet, GitHub repository or video. The link must open without sign-in; a private link cannot be graded. The free project workbook on this page walks you through all 6 steps.
Is the certificate real?
Yes. Passing this project issues a certificate with a unique verification code. Anyone — an employer, a client, a school — can open the verification page and see that the certificate is genuine and which project earned it.
