What you will submit
A single public link (for example a Google Doc) containing a polished professional email, a meeting or status-update summary, a 1-minute self-introduction script with a playable link to your recording, plus a short scenario note and an edit note.
What to do, step by step
- Pick a real or realistic work scenario you can write for — for example a remote freelance gig, a job application, a client project, or a role on a startup team. Briefly note (2-3 lines) who you are, who you're communicating with, and the context, so a reviewer can judge whether your tone and register fit the reader (Lessons 1-3).
- Write ONE polished professional email for that scenario — for example a project update to a client, a follow-up after no reply, or an application to a remote role. Use the email shape from Lesson 2: a clear subject line, a brief greeting, a body that leads with the point and makes any 'ask' obvious, and a clean close. Apply register-switching from Lesson 3 — warm but plain, with ornate or redundant formal phrases translated to clear neutral English.
- Write ONE meeting or status update summary using the structures from Lesson 6. Either summarise a (real or imagined) meeting — purpose, key decisions, and an action-items list naming who does what by when — OR write a Done / Doing / Blockers progress update, including at least one blocker raised with a proposed solution. Keep it scannable with headings or bullets and lead with the key point.
- Script and RECORD a 1-minute self-introduction — the kind you'd give at the start of an interview or a new project. Write the script first (a strong opening line, who you are and what you do, one or two relevant strengths or results, and a confident close), then record yourself reading it as audio or video, applying Lesson 4: slow down, lead with a headline, pronounce word endings, and aim for clarity over accent. Upload the recording somewhere it can be played from a link (for example Google Drive, Loom, YouTube unlisted, or a voice-note link).
- Run a clarity-and-register edit across all three pieces (Lessons 2, 3 and 5): read each one aloud as if you were a busy international reader, confirm names and terms are consistent, cut filler and heavy phrasing, prefer the active voice, and fix anything that reads as cold or unclear. Add a short note (3-5 lines) naming two things you changed or two formal phrases you translated to the clearer neutral version.
- Put the email, the update summary, the self-introduction script, and the link to your recording together in ONE document (for example a Google Doc set to 'anyone with the link can view'), include your short scenario note and your edit note, and submit that single public link.

| Criterion | Weight |
|---|---|
| The professional email is well structured (clear subject, greeting, point-first body with an obvious 'ask', clean close) and uses warm-but-plain register appropriate to the stated reader | 25% |
| The meeting or status-update summary follows a clear structure (meeting recap with action items, or Done/Doing/Blockers with a blocker plus proposed solution), leads with the key point, and is scannable | 25% |
| The 1-minute self-introduction is scripted with a strong opening and confident close, and the recording is clear, well-paced, and playable from the submitted link | 25% |
| Across all pieces, the writing is clear and register-appropriate — consistent naming, active voice, plain phrasing, ornate or redundant formal phrases translated to neutral English | 15% |
| All parts are submitted via one working public link with the scenario note and edit note included, and the recording link actually plays | 10% |
You need 65% overall to pass. A failed submission comes back with feedback and can be revised and resubmitted.
Before you submit: make your link public
If your work lives in Google Drive or Google Docs, open Share → General access and change “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link” (Viewer). Then paste the link into a private browser window: if it opens without sign-in, you are ready. A private link cannot be graded — it is the single most common reason a good project fails.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to finish Business English & Professional Communication before submitting the project?
Yes. The submission screen opens once every lesson in Business English & Professional Communication is marked complete. The lessons are where the methods, the Nigerian context and the worked examples the project depends on are taught.
How is the project graded?
An examiner scores each rubric criterion from 0 to 100 and weights them as shown on this page; you need 65% overall to pass. Most submissions are graded within minutes and you get written feedback on what was strong and what to improve.
Can I resubmit if I fail?
Yes. A failed project comes back with feedback; revise the weak parts and resubmit. A passed project is final — the certificate is issued and cannot be re-rolled.
What do I actually submit?
A write-up of what you did (under 5,000 characters) plus a public link to your work — a Google Drive folder, Google Doc, spreadsheet, GitHub repository or video. The link must open without sign-in; a private link cannot be graded. The free project workbook on this page walks you through all 6 steps.
Is the certificate real?
Yes. Passing this project issues a certificate with a unique verification code. Anyone — an employer, a client, a school — can open the verification page and see that the certificate is genuine and which project earned it.
