What you will submit

A single shareable link to a document or page containing: your published profile (with a link to it), your 3-piece portfolio link, your 3 tailored proposals, your USD pricing for all three models with justification, and your getting-paid plan with scam red flags.

What to do, step by step

  1. Choose your skill and niche from Lesson 1 (for example 'product descriptions for fashion e-commerce stores'), then write and publish a complete freelance profile on Upwork, Fiverr, or LinkedIn: a benefit-driven headline, an 'About' section written to the client's problem, a professional photo, and your chosen niche stated clearly.
  2. Build a 3-piece portfolio using spec or real samples as taught in Lesson 3. For each piece, add a short caption with Goal, Approach, and Outcome, and host everything behind one clean shareable link (Notion, Google Drive, Behance, or your LinkedIn Featured section).
  3. Find 3 real, currently-open job listings or client opportunities in your niche, and write a tailored proposal for each using the Lesson 5 structure (specific hook → understanding + solution → proof → soft call to action), each kept to 6–9 sentences of clean professional English.
  4. Set your beginner USD pricing for each pricing model (an hourly rate, a fixed-project price with revision rounds, and a possible retainer) using the Lesson 4 ranges, and write one short paragraph defending why you priced it that way.
  5. Write a getting-paid plan (Lesson 7): name the payment method(s) you will use (Payoneer, Grey, Geegpay, or domiciliary), note the main fees and how you'll keep records, and list at least 4 scam red flags you will watch for.
  6. Combine everything into one document or page and submit the link, making sure your portfolio link inside it is publicly viewable.

How it is graded

CriterionWeight
Profile quality — a clear niche, benefit-driven headline, and client-focused 'About' section, not a generic self-description20%
Portfolio — 3 relevant, professional pieces each with a Goal/Approach/Outcome caption behind one clean public link25%
Proposals — 3 genuinely tailored proposals for real listings, following the hook→solution→proof→CTA structure in clean English25%
Pricing — sensible USD rates for hourly, fixed, and retainer with a clear, confident justification15%
Getting-paid plan — named payment method(s), awareness of fees/records, and at least 4 correct scam red flags15%

You need 65% overall to pass. A failed submission comes back with feedback and can be revised and resubmitted.

Before you submit: make your link public

If your work lives in Google Drive or Google Docs, open Share → General access and change “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link” (Viewer). Then paste the link into a private browser window: if it opens without sign-in, you are ready. A private link cannot be graded — it is the single most common reason a good project fails.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to finish Freelancing from Nigeria before submitting the project?

Yes. The submission screen opens once every lesson in Freelancing from Nigeria is marked complete. The lessons are where the methods, the Nigerian context and the worked examples the project depends on are taught.

How is the project graded?

An examiner scores each rubric criterion from 0 to 100 and weights them as shown on this page; you need 65% overall to pass. Most submissions are graded within minutes and you get written feedback on what was strong and what to improve.

Can I resubmit if I fail?

Yes. A failed project comes back with feedback; revise the weak parts and resubmit. A passed project is final — the certificate is issued and cannot be re-rolled.

What do I actually submit?

A write-up of what you did (under 5,000 characters) plus a public link to your work — a Google Drive folder, Google Doc, spreadsheet, GitHub repository or video. The link must open without sign-in; a private link cannot be graded. The free project workbook on this page walks you through all 6 steps.

Is the certificate real?

Yes. Passing this project issues a certificate with a unique verification code. Anyone — an employer, a client, a school — can open the verification page and see that the certificate is genuine and which project earned it.
