What you will submit

A single shareable link (Behance / public Canva or Drive folder / portfolio site / Instagram post) containing three designs for one invented Nigerian business — a logo (transparent PNG, shown on light and dark), a 1080×1080 social post, and an A5/A4 flyer — all using consistent brand fonts and colours and real ₦ content. Include the short note covering the business, your colour/type choices, tools used, and your pricing plus client-finding plan. If any piece is hosted separately, include all the links.

What to do, step by step

  1. Invent ONE realistic Nigerian small business and write two or three sentences naming it: what it sells, who its customers are, and the vibe it should project (e.g. 'Mama Tea — a cosy Yaba juice and tea bar for young professionals; fresh, friendly, affordable'). Decide its brand BEFORE you design: choose at most two fonts and two-to-three colours (with a reason that fits the business), and note them down.
  2. Design a LOGO for the business that is simple, memorable and works in one colour — built in Canva (or Illustrator/Inkscape if you want a true vector). Export it as a transparent PNG, and show it once on a light background and once on a dark background so it reads clearly on both.
  3. Design a SOCIAL MEDIA POST (1080×1080 square) for the same business — a real-style promotion, opening or offer — using the brand's chosen fonts and colours, a clear single message, large readable text, and the logo/handle. Apply the principles: strong hierarchy, good contrast, alignment and breathing room.
  4. Design a FLYER (A5 or A4) for the same business — an opening, event or promotion — with a clear top-to-bottom hierarchy: headline biggest, then key details (date/venue/offer), then a call to action and contact (phone, WhatsApp, Instagram) plus the logo. Use real, believable Nigerian content and naira (₦) prices — NEVER 'Lorem ipsum' or '$' placeholder money.
  5. Export everything cleanly at full quality (PNG for the logo and social post; PNG or print-ready PDF for the flyer) and place all three pieces in ONE shareable portfolio — a Behance project, a Canva/Google Drive folder set to 'anyone with the link can view', a free portfolio site, or an Instagram design post — so an assessor can open and see them.
  6. Write a short note (5-7 sentences) in your portfolio or submission: the business and its customers, your colour and font choices and why they fit, which tools you used, and your go-to-market — the naira price you'd charge for this brand pack and how you'd find your first client for this kind of work.

How it is graded

CriterionWeight
Brand consistency — the logo, social post and flyer clearly belong together: same two fonts and two-to-three colours used deliberately across all three25%
Design principles — clean alignment, strong contrast, clear visual hierarchy and breathing room; no clutter, stretched fonts or rainbow colours25%
Deliverable completeness & export — all three pieces present and correct (logo as transparent PNG on light+dark, 1080×1080 post, A5/A4 flyer) exported at full quality with no blur or pixelation20%
Nigerian content & realism — believable local business, real-style names and naira (₦) prices, sensible details (no Lorem ipsum or '$' placeholders)15%
Go-to-market note — clear business description, justified colour/type choices, tools used, plus a realistic ₦ price and client-finding plan15%

You need 65% overall to pass. A failed submission comes back with feedback and can be revised and resubmitted.

Before you submit: make your link public

If your work lives in Google Drive or Google Docs, open Share → General access and change “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link” (Viewer). Then paste the link into a private browser window: if it opens without sign-in, you are ready. A private link cannot be graded — it is the single most common reason a good project fails.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to finish Graphic Design with Canva & Adobe Tools before submitting the project?

Yes. The submission screen opens once every lesson in Graphic Design with Canva & Adobe Tools is marked complete. The lessons are where the methods, the Nigerian context and the worked examples the project depends on are taught.

How is the project graded?

An examiner scores each rubric criterion from 0 to 100 and weights them as shown on this page; you need 65% overall to pass. Most submissions are graded within minutes and you get written feedback on what was strong and what to improve.

Can I resubmit if I fail?

Yes. A failed project comes back with feedback; revise the weak parts and resubmit. A passed project is final — the certificate is issued and cannot be re-rolled.

What do I actually submit?

A write-up of what you did (under 5,000 characters) plus a public link to your work — a Google Drive folder, Google Doc, spreadsheet, GitHub repository or video. The link must open without sign-in; a private link cannot be graded. The free project workbook on this page walks you through all 6 steps.

Is the certificate real?

Yes. Passing this project issues a certificate with a unique verification code. Anyone — an employer, a client, a school — can open the verification page and see that the certificate is genuine and which project earned it.
