What to do, step by step
- Invent a Nigerian small business (or use a real friend's business with their written permission) with a name, what it sells, who its customers are, where it trades and what makes it different. Do not copy, trace or closely imitate any existing logo, and do not use a cracked font or unlicensed images.
- Part 1. Brief and research: a one-page brief (business, audience, competitors, personality words, must-haves and must-avoids, where the logo will be used, deadline) and a research page with a competitor grid of at least five businesses and a moodboard with a sentence on what each image contributes.
- Part 2. Concepts: photos or scans of at least 30 thumbnail sketches, and three developed directions in vector, each with a one-paragraph rationale and a test showing it at favicon size and in one colour.
- Part 3. The final logo: the chosen mark in vector with its lock-ups (horizontal, stacked, icon), clear space and minimum size, the typeface with its licence type stated, and the colour palette with hex, RGB and CMYK values, plus one-colour and reversed versions.
- Part 4. Applications: the identity applied to at least five items (for example a business card, a social media template, packaging or a bag, a shop sign, a uniform or a vehicle), with mock-ups labelled as mock-ups.
- Part 5. Brand guide and delivery: a brand guide of 8 to 15 pages (logo versions and misuse, colour, type, imagery, applications) and a list or screenshot of the delivery folder with every file format and size you would hand over.
- Part 6. The case study: a one-page write-up of the problem, your process, the decision you made and why, and what you would charge for this job as a package with your reasoning.

| The final logo is clean, distinctive, works small and in one colour, with correct lock-ups, type licence and colour specification | 26% |
| The applications are consistent and realistic across at least five items | 14% |
| The brand guide is complete and the delivery pack has the right formats and sizes | 18% |
| The case study explains the thinking clearly and the price is reasoned | 12% |
You need 65% overall to pass. A failed submission comes back with feedback and can be revised and resubmitted.
Before you submit: make your link public
If your work lives in Google Drive or Google Docs, open Share → General access and change “Restricted” to “Anyone with the link” (Viewer). Then paste the link into a private browser window: if it opens without sign-in, you are ready. A private link cannot be graded — it is the single most common reason a good project fails.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to finish Logo & Brand Identity Design: From Brief to Brand Guide before submitting the project?
Yes. The submission screen opens once every lesson in Logo & Brand Identity Design: From Brief to Brand Guide is marked complete. The lessons are where the methods, the Nigerian context and the worked examples the project depends on are taught.
How is the project graded?
An examiner scores each rubric criterion from 0 to 100 and weights them as shown on this page; you need 65% overall to pass. Most submissions are graded within minutes and you get written feedback on what was strong and what to improve.
Can I resubmit if I fail?
Yes. A failed project comes back with feedback; revise the weak parts and resubmit. A passed project is final — the certificate is issued and cannot be re-rolled.
What do I actually submit?
A write-up of what you did (under 5,000 characters) plus a public link to your work — a Google Drive folder, Google Doc, spreadsheet, GitHub repository or video. The link must open without sign-in; a private link cannot be graded. The free project workbook on this page walks you through all 7 steps.
Is the certificate real?
Yes. Passing this project issues a certificate with a unique verification code. Anyone — an employer, a client, a school — can open the verification page and see that the certificate is genuine and which project earned it.
